Since its establishment in 2000, the Swadhinata Trust has become the single point of contact for all things Bengali. And from our inception, we’ve always been here to help – dealing with enquiries and giving advice about the Bengali community.

From 2009 to March 2010, we’ve had almost 200 enquiries. We have worked with primary and secondary schools as well as youth groups in a number of London Boroughs including Tower Hamlets. Our most recent exhibition has been seen by over 200 people in the borough.

Unfortunately the Trust is experiencing worst financial situation since its inception. We urgently need to raise £10,000 to cover our running costs.

Get involved

At the heart of Swadhinata Trust’s history are volunteers, who greatly enhance the work of the Swadhinata Trust, supporting the internal running of the organisation, or producing innovative research or promoting the work of the Swadhinata Trust to a wider audience. We offer volunteering opportunities and hope to in the future collaborate with our partners to offer apprenticeships (working with The National Archive and Tower Hamlets Archive Library at present on a two year apprentice program) and internships also.

As a registered charity we are entirely reliant on voluntary contributions to continue our work. We rely on the support and generosity of individuals, trusts and foundations, the statutory sector and businesses to fund our services and projects.

Fundraise for us

Whether you get involved in a nationwide or local event, or prefer to organise something yourself, fundraising for Swadhinata Trust offers you the opportunity to achieve something for yourself whilst helping to make a difference to people’s lives in the East End of London.

Organise your own fundraising event

You can of course organise your own fundraising events such as a sponsored walk, quiz night, a photography competition, barbecue, etc. Please do let us know if you are planning an event so we can offer you support and send us photos so we can feature you on our website!
