Che si Può Fare (What is to be Done) at Whitechapel Gallery in Summer 2019. Her project is about the female voice with a particular interest in the idea of lament . It takes courage to acknowledge loss, however, once it is acknowledged, energy, action and strength can appear. Lamentation becomes a form of resistance and a way to be resilient.
In collaboration with women living in Tower Hamlets, Helen Cammock will lead a series of workshops in dialogue with a choreographer. The workshops are an opportunity for participants to express their stories through their bodies. No one needs to be a dancer. All ages, fitness, confidence levels and abilities can be catered for.

Artist Biography
Helen Cammock was born to an English mother and Jamaican father in 1970s Britain and remembers growing up questioning notions of blackness and womanhood, wealth and poverty, power and vulnerability. Helen works across moving image, photography, writing, poetry, spoken word, song, performance, printmaking and installation. She is interested in histories, storytelling and the excavation, re-interpretation and re-presentation of lost, unheard and buried voices.
